The website of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ has posted a translation into Russian of the article by Jovan Kurbalija “2023 predictions: 12 digital governance and diplomacy trends”. The article was published in early January 2023 on the Internet resource of the Swiss- Maltese NGO Diplo, which specializes in capacity building in the field of Internet governance and digital policy.
The article talks about how digital governance and diplomacy influence each other and what are the current trends in the field of this interaction. Jovan Kurbalija designates 12 trends, each of is revealed in more detail. He also talks about the events that led to the highlighting of these trends, as well as analyzes national and international policy on each of them.
The author notes that despite the tension that prevailed in 2022 in almost all areas, the Internet infrastructure did not stop working. He also says that 2023 is an opportunity for us to look at how we would like to shape our digital future. Kurbalija takes a detailed look at the challenges emerging in the field of digital cooperation and challenges for digital transformation: from discussions on cybersecurity and preparations for the adoption of the Global Digital Compact to the protection of human rights on the Internet, content management and new principles of hybrid interaction in diplomacy.
Jovan Kurbalija is the founder and director of the DiploFoundation and the head of the Geneva Internet Platform (GIP). Formerly a career diplomat, he has a background in law, diplomacy and information technology. Dr. Kurbalija is the author and editor of numerous books, articles and chapters. Among his works is the world-famous book “Internet Governance”, which was first published in Russian in 2010 at the initiative of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ. The release of the book was timed to coincide with the First Russian Internet Governance Forum (RIGF 2010). In 2018, the Coordination Center for decided to republish the book, making a new translation of the seventh edition of the Diplo bestseller. It can be fo und on the Center’s website.
